ASIA —  Gospel for Asia released a special report on “ Seeking Justice & Defending Human Rights .” In addition to being available on the ministry’s website, the report was published in three parts on Patheos . The recurring theme of the report was abuse and indignity suffered by women and children, especially those in developing countries in Asia and the larger 10/40 Window. Expanding on that report, we at Missions Box News feel the need to communicate the indignities and injustices women suffer as a result of child marriages. Our purpose is to motivate believers to pray with compassion for the young girls and women who are under the bondage of dowry. It is important to understand that dowry was made illegal by the Dowry Prohibition Act of 1961 in India and “ subsequently by Sections 304B and 498A[9] of the Indian Penal Code. As followers of Christ, you and I are called to be servants — of God and of mankind. And when we think about the fact that it was not a man but it was the Living God who called us into His service and who has made us responsible over His work, we realize what a privilege it is that we have been given. More than that, we realize the magnitude of the responsibility. This ought to make us the most faithful and committed people in the world. How can we not wake up early, focused and intent on serving, when we are in the service of the Lord Himself? Especially when what we do impacts the lives of people who are in great need ? Yet it is so easy to not even think about these things and to live our lives just like everyone else. How Should We Live? Maybe it would be good to ask ourselves: How do we go about the ministry opportunities the Lord has given us? Do we arrive late, or cut corners, or treat the work with less seriousness than we would treat other work? ...

“The devil doesn’t want people to read because God wrote a book.” TULSA — You may never have heard of Literacy & Evangelism International, but the calling and vision the Lord gave to Dr. Robert F. Rice over 50 years ago are still prospering today. During several years of service ministering in South Korea, Bob Rice and his wife began to realize the importance of adult literacy and the potential for teaching literacy as a means of evangelism. Two years after returning to Oklahoma in 1965, Dr. Rice launched Literacy & Evangelism International. He had experienced first-hand that it was possible to introduce people to Jesus, but it was nearly impossible to help them grow in the faith because they were unable to read the Bible. ASIA — Gospel for Asia-supported workers observed International Women’s Day across Asia on March 8 by providing women with opportunities that will help them thrive in every aspect of life. National workers inaugurated new tailoring classes to provide vocational skills for underprivileged women. The classes will teach women how to successfully operate a business using newly acquired skills. They also established new literacy centers; provided health care and personal hygiene lessons for women living in rural areas where the residents are generally unaware of causes and prevention of diseases common among Asian families; and distributed food, clothing, household utensils and other practical items to hundreds of underprivileged women in slum and remote villages.
