What Is GFA World Doing to Provide People with Access to Clean Drinking Water Solutions?

GFA World has been serving people in Asia since 1979. For many of those years, we have been providing people with access to clean drinking water solutions through two primary methods.

Jesus Wells

Over 30,000 Jesus Wells have been drilled in the last two decades. These wells are provided to communities and villages that have no close access to clean drinking water. For example, in many communities, people were walking hours to find water and, oftentimes, it was contaminated. These communities now have access to clean water that is safe to drink and use for cooking and other needs.

What makes these wells unique? First, the well is maintained by a local church and its pastor. The well becomes a ministry of that church and the water is provided free of charge to the community. The church is responsible for making sure the pump and handle are working well and the area around the well is maintained.

BioSand Water Filters

These filters are a great solution for individual families or small neighborhoods. BioSand water filters use a layered approach to remove contamination from water. In fact, the filters clean water 98%, leaving it safe to drink and use for cooking and other household needs.

These two solutions continue to provide clean, safe water to people in Asia.

There are many methods for how to break the cycle of poverty which one can learn about. From education assistance to income-generating gifts like sewing machines or farm animals, there is hope for families who have been poor for generations. GFA World works in communities in all these ways through sponsorships and gift distributions, and one by one, we see lives changed as families escape poverty. Raina’s life had been dominated by poverty. She was part of a highly underprivileged people group that faced discrimination and deprivation from others in the region. What Do I Need to Know about the Global Poverty Rate?

Statisticians are getting better at measuring the global poverty rate every year. The World Bank is one group working hard to accurately measure it so that the extent of the problem is fully known and so that progress can be measured. [1] Through governments and non-governmental organizations (NGOs), we can more clearly see the last decade of progress and the most recent effects driving poverty rates. Sub-Saharan Africa has been one area difficult to measure, but new data shows an overall reduction in the percentage of those in poverty.
