GFA’s Missionaries in Africa

GFA World has more than forty years of missions experience. Now the ministry is drawing on that history. It is expanding and training missionaries in Africa to serve as national workers. Africa is a vast and diverse continent. About 1.4 billion people live across 54 countries and among many distinct people groups and cultures.[1] About half the population is under the age of 15. Local leaders are working hard. Yet many communities still face serious challenges.

Many families live with ongoing water shortages and limited access to education and healthcare. In crowded cities and remote villages alike, parents often struggle to meet daily needs. GFA World has already begun responding to these needs in Kigali, Rwanda.[2]

GFA World’s first major step with missionaries in Africa is a branch of GFA World’s Child Sponsorship Program. It serves needy neighborhoods of Kigali, Rwanda. This outreach began in March 2021. Rwanda is one of the most densely populated nations in Africa. Many children there grow up without steady access to school, nutritious food or safe places to play. Through child sponsorship, GFA World is working to meet tangible needs. The team also shares Christ’s love with those who most need encouragement.

Work is also moving forward to establish a Bible college. From this training center, GFA World will equip national Christian missionaries in Africa. These leaders will share the love of Christ with their own people. They will also help launch clean water projects, medical ministries, education programs and more. In each place, they will work closely with local churches, community leaders and families. Together, they will discern which needs are most urgent.[3]

Rwanda is only the beginning of GFA World’s work in Africa. Church planting there has already grown into a fellowship of several hundred believers. This central location will serve as a hub for future ministry. From this base, teams can more easily travel to neighboring nations and build relationships. In God’s timing, they can also begin new works. GFA World plans to expand to additional African nations in the coming years. These include Burundi, Tanzania, Kenya, Uganda and South Sudan.

“We aim to be servants to everyone, showing them Christ through our lifestyle,” says GFA’s founder, K.P. Yohannan (Metropolitan Yohan).[4] He explains that this calling guides GFA’s missionary involvement in Africa. His desire is that every step forward in Africa reflect humility, love and dependence on God.
