What Are Charitable X-Mas Gifts?

Charitable x-mas gifts make a profound difference in the lives of those who need help most. GFA World offers an opportunity to aid families worldwide, like those in Rwanda, by giving gifts that create lasting change—gifts of stability, hope and a brighter future. For example, at GFA World, a family may receive a life-changing gift of livestock, training in a specific vocation, a sewing machine or pull cart, literacy training, winter clothes or an outdoor toilet.

Idalene, a grandmother in Rwanda, understands the power of such generosity firsthand.[1] She is raising her little grandson, Bret, and her three youngest children alone. She watched her family eagerly devour a modest meal of beans, veggies and rice in her small home. Meals weren’t always available, and the family had not eaten for a day and a night. But Idalene dreamed of more than a day-to-day struggle for her family. She wanted her children and grandson to grow up strong, educated and ready for a better life. Her prayers were answered in a way she hadn’t expected.

GFA World’s Child Sponsorship Program reached Idalene’s community as she faced a difficult decision about Bret’s education. As a three-year-old, it was time for Bret to start school, but her limited resources were already stretched thin, making this dream seem nearly impossible. Then, our GFA World staff, alongside local leaders, identified families like Idalene’s as needing help the most. We invited her to bring Bret to the child sponsorship program enrollment day, and with heartfelt gratitude, Idalene walked home that day knowing Bret’s education was secured.

There are many methods for how to break the cycle of poverty which one can learn about. From education assistance to income-generating gifts like sewing machines or farm animals, there is hope for families who have been poor for generations. GFA World works in communities in all these ways through sponsorships and gift distributions, and one by one, we see lives changed as families escape poverty. Raina’s life had been dominated by poverty. She was part of a highly underprivileged people group that faced discrimination and deprivation from others in the region. Generational Poverty: A Cycle Not Worth Repeating

The cycle of generational poverty can seem impossible to break. Children inherit what their parents teach and show them. a joint report from Ascend: The Aspen Institute and Bernard van Leer Foundation affirms this. “What young children learn from the adults who raise and care for them lays the foundation for future social, emotional, language, and cognitive growth,” the report says. 1 Children raised in a generational poverty mindset often lack the tools they need to succeed or achieve a better life than that of their parents.
