Radu and Sadia, a South Asian couple, experienced firsthand the transformative impact of our work at GFA World.[1] As the eldest son of a low-income family, Radu had to work from a young age to support his family. After enduring years of hardship, he married Sadia, who had also endured the struggles of a difficult, impoverished childhood. Together, they worked tirelessly for their children, yet they faced relentless challenges, including losing loved ones, severe poverty and then Sadia’s serious illness.

When Sadia’s health began to deteriorate, Radu grew desperate, trying everything he could—from traditional remedies to hospitals—but nothing improved her condition. In his desperation, he remembered a local church led by Pastor Haruto, a GFA pastor known for his compassion. Though initially hesitant, Radu visited the church as a final hope for Sadia’s recovery.

Pastor Haruto and the church community welcomed the couple with open arms, offering physical aid, spiritual encouragement and consistent support. As Radu and Sadia began attending, Sadia experienced gradual healing, and they found a renewed sense of peace. Despite criticism from villagers, Radu continued attending, saying, “Villagers may mock me, but I will go to the church because it is for my wife’s better future.”

The cycle of generational poverty can seem impossible to break.
