How Can Poverty Be Solved?

Poverty is a significant issue that affects millions of people worldwide. Poverty increases malnutrition and food insecurity, unemployment and mortality rates. So how can poverty be solved? What solutions will help alleviate poverty worldwide?

Education

Education is a powerful solution to poverty. Education helps children develop critical thinking, reading, writing and math skills and confidence about themselves and their future.

GFA World’s child-sponsorship program helps thousands of children and their families annually. Donors help break the cycle of poverty through giving to community-wide solutions like opportunities for education, medical care, protection against malnutrition, clean water and more. Clean water

Clean water is imperative for health and everyday tasks for people worldwide. Clean water prevents illness, infection and dehydration so people can work and attend school. Communities that do not have safe drinking water need clean water filters, water wells and water sanitation systems.

GFA World’s Jesus Wells can be a life-saving resource for many families to protect them from dehydration, lack of sanitation and even severe disease. A Jesus Well can last up to 20 years and provide water for up to 300 people a day. GFA World has drilled over 30,000 Jesus Wells. Learn more here: https://www.gfa.org/videos/jesus-wells/

Vocational training

Many adults did not regularly attend school or complete their education. Without proper education, many adults cannot qualify for good jobs or navigate daily tasks like signing documents or reading road signs. The World Bank notes that “One-third of the working-age population in low- and middle-income countries lack the basic skills required to get quality jobs, leaving them unable to achieve their full productive potential and limiting economic investment and growth.”1 Vocational training classes help adults develop knowledge and marketable skills in trades like candle making, fishing, welding, tailoring and much more. Practical, marketable skills allow adults to create additional sources of income for themselves and their families.
