Here are most of the countries in the 10/40 window as designated by Window International Network:[1]

  • Central Asia – Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan

It has been reported that 87% of the people in the 10/40 window are the poorest of the poor.[2] GFA World works in several of these areas to provide help and hope in various ways.

For example, when the cycle of poverty has been churning through a family for generations, it often takes an outside force to intervene in a tangible way to break through and help end the cycle. This outside force may be as simple as gifting a small flock of chickens or a pair of goats that the family can breed. Or maybe it is a new pull-cart for a farmer or a package of seeds for his or her garden. 

Classes are also highly impactful both for children and adults. Adults who learn income-generating skills are able to find new ways to provide for their families and likely to break out of poverty. The classes teach skills such as literacy, welding or sewing. Children also find help through child sponsorship, which allows them to stay in school and receive the life-changing gift of education! Through all these ways, people in this region of the world find spiritual hope and tangible help through the missionaries of GFA World.

Our Attitude Towards Suffering

In 2 Timothy 2:3, the Apostle Paul writes to Timothy, “Join with me in suffering, like a good soldier of Christ Jesus.” Everyone, at some point or another, faces suffering, the soldier especially. However, it is not so much what we suffer, but how we suffer that matters. The way our heart responds to suffering is crucial, because by it we will either advance or become stagnant. To suffer like a good soldier is to willingly endure all for the sake of the call. To suffer like a bad soldier is to grumble when difficult situations and hardship arise. There are many methods for how to break the cycle of poverty which one can learn about. From education assistance to income-generating gifts like sewing machines or farm animals, there is hope for families who have been poor for generations. GFA World works in communities in all these ways through sponsorships and gift distributions, and one by one, we see lives changed as families escape poverty. Raina’s life had been dominated by poverty. She was part of a highly underprivileged people group that faced discrimination and deprivation from others in the region.
