Serve with Renewed Passion Through These 3 Powerful Steps

As many ministries get older, they slowly lose their initial focus on serving the Lord. What once was excitement to serve and spontaneous growth is now replaced with stagnancy.

How do we go about restoring in our ministries that initial passion to serve the Lord? The simplest way to bring about change is to start with changing yourself.

Serve with Renewed Passion Through These 3 Powerful Steps - KP Yohannan - Gospel for Asia

1. Abandon Yourself to God

Genuine revival of ourselves comes from a personal, intimate encounter with the living God, not with changing the rules and regulations of the organization or church we serve with.

"How do we go about restoring in our ministries that initial passion to serve the Lord? The simplest way to bring about change is to start with changing yourself. "

Deliberately choose to do things that will develop and cultivate your heart:
  • Take time to think, pray sincerely and ask the Lord to renew the vision of your ministry.
  • Translate that vision into your specific area within the ministry.
  • Search for unique ways that you can share and spread this vision within your own personal sphere of influence.
Some questions we must ask ourselves as we seek to become more radical in our faith are:
  1. How can I be a servant?
  2. How can I be broken?
The answer is to encounter the one who is servant of all and who was broken for the world.

2. Seek to Serve

"The Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve," says Mark 10:45.

The life of Jesus, in its finest manifestation, was all about caring for others.

Let us be continually thinking of how we can bless and encourage others. Those who are in responsible positions within an organization need to continually consider how to build up and “recharge” those who are under their authority and how to develop each one based on his or her abilities and giftings.

Some ways we can best motivate our brothers and sisters are through:
  • "The life of Jesus, in its finest manifestation, was all about caring for others." Love
  • Grace
  • Encouragement
  • Approval
  • Forgiveness
  • Correction and challenge
  • Integrity
  • Prayer and fasting
Do what it takes, as the Lord gives you the grace, to work toward really becoming one. We are not one just because we work together—it is because we genuinely care for one another.

3. Empower Others

When you have influence over someone, you should never use that influence to get things done or make things happen. Make sure that you place a higher value, above anything else, on a person’s inner reality, character, humility, and brokenness and on a heart that seeks no glory or ambition.

The disciples stuck with Jesus for no other reason than love. And it is crucial that we understand this as we relate to one another.

Help Bring Renewal in Your Organization: Today, ask the Lord to show you people within your circle of influence, one or two perhaps, in whom you can invest your life and share your vision. Be open and honest with them.

Dr. KP Yohannan, founder and international director of Gospel for Asia, has written more than 200 books, including Revolution in World Missions, and international bestseller with more than 3 million copies in print. His road to reality radio program airs on more than 900 outlets worldwide. He and his wife, Gisela, have two grown children, Daniel and Sarah, who both serve the Lord with their families.

Gospel for Asia has been serving the “least of these” in Asia since its beginning in 1979, often in places where no one else is serving. GFA supports national workers who are serving as the hands and feet of Christ by ministering to people’s needs so they can understand the love of God for them for the first time. GFA is engaged in dozens of projects, such as caring for poor children, slum dwellers and widows and orphans; providing clean water by funding wells; supporting medical missions; and meeting the needs of those in leprosy colonies. Through GFA's Bridge of Hope Program, tens of thousands of children are being rescued from the generational curses of poverty and hopelessness.
