What Christian Leaders are Saying about Gospel for Asia

Gospel for Asia (GFA) is a nonprofit founded in 1979 committed to serving “the least of these” in Asia. GFA supports national field workers who in turn bring the love of Christ to those living in rural and under-served areas. Whether it’s providing the opportunity for a brighter future for a child in Asia through their Bridge of Hope program or giving away a sewing machine to help a family generate income, GFA has stood by its mission to transform communities through the love of Christ, one individual at a time.
After serving in ministry for nearly 40 years, GFA has had the opportunity to make an impact both overseas and at home. Here’s what Christian leaders are saying about Gospel for Asia and it’s founder KP Yohannan:
KP Yohannan and George Verwer
KP Yohannan says his life was hugely impacted by George Verwer, beginning 40+ years ago serving with Operation Mobilization in India.
George Verwer
Founder of Operation Mobilization, author,  and an advocate for evangelism and missions:

Gospel for Asia is not a movement but a phenomenon. GFA has become one of the most significant mission organizations of this century.
I praise God for the great love and commitment of K.P. and Gisela Yohannan for the people of Asia. Millions have received the Word of God because of them and the ministry of Gospel for Asia.
Ajith Fernando
Teaching director and former national director of Youth for Christ in Sri Lanka, author of over 15 books, and a minister to underprivileged urban communities:
I am grateful for the training that Gospel for Asia has given to many evangelists who are effectively reaping the ripe harvest fields of Sri Lanka.

Dr. David Mains
Founder of Mainstay Ministries and considered by many to be the “pastor to pastors,” Mains also has more than two decades of experience in media and broadcast ministry:
For half my life I have known and worked closely with Dr. KP Yohannan … that’s over four decades.
I have seen his understanding of the Christian faith expand in ever so many positive ways. More recently, I have watched him respond humbly to the criticisms of those who for whatever reasons have attacked him.
I believe 100% in his integrity and am honored to serve as one of GFA’s Board of Directors.
Paul Louis Cole, D. TH
President of Christian Men’s Network, Cole is an internationally acclaimed author and speaker. His travels have taken him to more than 60 countries:
Dr. KP Yohannan is a missionary statesman, a pastor to pastors, a mission leader to mission leaders, and a father to the fatherless.
Everett Flight
Pastor to a thriving church in Ontario, Flight’s dedication to the Word has brought him to multiple countries in Europe and Asia:
I am deeply moved by the heart and passion of this ministry’s personnel, from KP Yohannan to the Canadian office leadership… This ministry will inform, challenge and stir your people concerning the vast needs in worldwide missions.
Shawna Rodgers
Rodgers is an assistant pastor of River Valley Wesleyan Church
[Revolution in World Missions] is standard reading for our missions committee and anyone interested in overseas work. Yohannan continues to challenge existing paradigms of ministry and leads us to enlarge our worldview, which includes supporting national missionaries.

Generational Poverty: A Cycle Not Worth Repeating

Image
The cycle of generational poverty can seem impossible to break. Children inherit what their parents teach and show them. a joint report from Ascend: The Aspen Institute and Bernard van Leer Foundation affirms this. “What young children learn from the adults who raise and care for them lays the foundation for future social, emotional, language, and cognitive growth,” the report says. 1 Children raised in a generational poverty mindset often lack the tools they need to succeed or achieve a better life than that of their parents. As adults, these individuals often then raise their children in poverty similar to that of their own childhoods, and the cycle perpetuates. It’s a cycle not worth repeating, yet it does time and time again. For the 736 million people worldwide living below the poverty line, earning $1.90 a day or less, the focus is frequently on mere survival. 2 Children are disproportionately affected by extreme poverty, says UNICEF, as “children who grow up impoverished often...

What Is the Poverty Cycle?

Image
The question, “What is the poverty cycle, or cycle of poverty?” is one that must be answered to address and end poverty across the globe. Put simply, the term refers to the trend where the vicious effects of poverty and deprivation pass from one generation to the next, with no seeming way out. [1] Someone born into poverty has fewer opportunities than their wealthier peers. They must focus on survival above all, leaving little room for anything else. One illness can wipe out a family’s savings, but the unclean water sources and lack of protection available to them invite sickness. Walking to retrieve water can be time-consuming yet must be a daily priority, and many children must work alongside their parents for the family to afford food. Thus, school is often a far-off dream. Having had few opportunities to acquire skills, the kids grow up to repeat the cycle of poverty with their own children. This story was all too familiar for Nalah. His father worked in the tea fields, trying to e...

Empowering Girls: Transforming Lives and Shaping a Brighter Future

Image
In the annals of world history, the relentless pattern of the strong preying upon the weak and vulnerable remains an unfortunate reality. Among the most vulnerable are women, who often bear the brunt of exploitation due to their comparatively lesser physical strength. Their marginalized status in numerous societies further exposes them to oppression and victimization. However, within this context, one segment of society stands out as exceptionally susceptible to unimaginable abuse: girls. [1] Beyond their inherent physical vulnerability, empowering girls across the globe becomes paramount in ensuring their rights and protection, particularly in traditional cultures where they often find themselves positioned at the lowest rungs of the social hierarchy. [2] As children, girls tend to exhibit trust and obedience during their formative years, rendering them even more susceptible to the harmful impact of girls’ exploitation and abuse. A Life of Hardship Obstacles to girls’ education inte...
